What
This will be a brief history of the ups and downs of using Plone in the Medical Sciences Division at Oxford. I'll have to explain some of the infuriating idiosyncrasies of working in an academic institution - so you can come and mock, sympathize or empathize at that bit. However my aim apart from self-pity will be to demonstrate the flexibility of Plone in meeting the challenges of content management in a complex distributed environment and the power of an exemplary open source project
If you're considering Plone, content management or open source then I hope this will be a useful talk (I'd be thrilled if you could learn from my mistakes as it would make it all worthwhile). If you're a member of the fabulous Plone community and have helped us or worked with us, then come along and see if you get a mention, plus understand a little better why we in the MSD appear to be completely mad.
Who
Anne Bowtell
Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford
I've worked at Oxford University for about 10 years - firstly as an IT Support Officer until I moved to my current role as web manager for the Medical Sciences Division. In a previous existence I used to teach Latin and Greek. I like to think that I was able to make these complicated subjects quite interesting, though I once saw one of my students fall asleep in her chair while I was explaining something about Cicero. I believe I've improved since then. In 2008/09 I put together the theme reference manual for Plone documentation.
